Transactions of the Halifax Antiquarian Society
Each Autumn, the Society publishes its Transactions which are sent free of charge
to all its members. These take the form of a series of short papers, chiefly by its
own members, on a wide variety of topics covering all aspects of local history. The
Transactions have been issued since 1901 and collectively form the most comprehensive
work available on the history of Halifax and Calderdale.
First Series
Published annually
for the years 1901 to 1991 as separate papers the following year, except for the
years 1973/1974 that were printed together, and 1975 that was bound as a single volume.
Members have often had their annual copies bound together as single volumes.
New Series
Published
annually as bound volumes since 1993 during the autumn of the year that is printed
on the cover. This change in format was made to reflect the fact that fewer of the
papers printed are now a verbatim record of a presentation that has been given to
a meeting of the Society the previous year, unlike those in the early years.
Please
note that the page numbers printed on a small number of the earlier papers do not
match those in the annual contents, which are those that are used here.
Copies of
many of these Transactions are still available at modest cost and further details
